Google announced an additional change (or improvement, depending on your point of view) to the search engine algorithm. According to the “above the fold change” the relevancy of the content displayed at the top of a web page will impact the site’s search result ranking. In other words, rankings of websites with lots of ads above the fold might be affected by this algorithm change.

In his Google Webmaster Central Blog announcement, Matt Cutts said that the change will not affect “sites who place ads above-the-fold to a normal degree, but affects sites that go much further to load the top of the page with ads to an excessive degree or that make it hard to find the actual original content on the page.” Cutts estimates that the algorithm change will affect only less than 1% of global searches.
