Search Engine Marketing

The term Search Engine Marketing (SEM) describes all the actions taken for the purpose of improving a website’s visibility in the search engine results, both the organic and the paid results.

Search Engine Marketing consists of two main parts:

Search Engine Optimization (SEO): the part that focuses on the search engines’ organic search results, which doesn’t involve direct payment to Google (or any other search engine for that matter). SEO practices includes optimizing the website’s code and its hierarchy, improving the content and matching it to the users’ search queries, link building and other activities that can boost the website’s ranking on relevant keywords.

Paid Search Marketing (PPC): advertising on Google’s paid search results. The paid search marketing works the same as an auction, as advertisers compete on the search results’ ranking of specific keywords using a combination of price bid, ad and landing page relevancy.
