Meta Tags

A group of tags that includes the following parts in descending order:

Title – in most content management systems the external title is different from the internal title and it is one of the most important features in a website’s optimization for search engines. The title is displayed in the search results as a clickable link. The title should be unique for each page, descriptive and relevant to the webpage’s content and include the page’s main keywords, and still interesting enough to be clicked by users.

Description – a few sentences that describe the page’s content. The description tag appears at the search results as part of the website description, below the page title. An optimal meta-description will be unique and relevant for each page, complete and support the title, include offers or calls for action and secondary keywords.

The description tag look like that:

<meta name=”Description” content=”This page is about…/>

Keywords – a list that includes all the main keywords and phrases of a webpage. The meta keywords are not displayed in search results and most search engines do not attach importance to this meta tag. Today, meta keywords are hardly being used.
